Custom-fit Christmas lights for Vancouver homes

Store-bought light strings come in fixed lengths. Your roofline doesn't. That mismatch is why so many displays sag, double back or stop a few feet short of the corner.

We build every strand on site to the exact length of each roofline, gutter and peak on your house. Bulbs sit on 12-inch spacing for even, straight lines, and every strand is commercial grade.

Because we rent the lights rather than sell them, you're never stuck with boxes of strands that only fit last year's plan. And because we keep your strands labeled for your home, your second season costs less and goes up faster than the first.

We install across Vancouver, from Felida, Lake Shore and Salmon Creek to Cascade Park and Fishers Landing, and anywhere else in Clark County.

What's included in every Vancouver installation

One price per foot covers the whole season. Here's what that gets you.

  • A design built around you

Send a photo and tell us what you're picturing. Classic warm white, a color pattern or something in between, we plan it with you.

  • Commercial-grade lights

C9 or C7 strands with retrofit LED bulbs that keep shining when a neighboring bulb fails. Minis for trees, bushes and railings.

  • Custom fitting on site

Strands are measured, cut and assembled at your house, so every line follows your gutters and peaks exactly.

  • In-season repairs

A bulb or strand goes out? Call us 7am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday, and we fix it at no extra cost.

  • January takedown

We remove everything we installed by the end of the second week of January. Nothing left on your roof into February.

  • Labeled storage

Your strands go into a bin with your name and install notes, so next year's display goes back up faster and matches.

The lights

Choosing your Christmas lights: C9, C7 or minis

Every option is commercial grade. The difference is the look you want and where the lights are going.

Large warm white bulbs evenly spaced along the rooflines of a snowy two-story home

Best for rooflines

C9 bulbs

The classic, bold Christmas roofline. Large bulbs on 12-inch spacing with retrofit LEDs that stay lit if the bulb next to them goes out.

Lit roofline and gables on a stone-front home at night

Best for a lower profile

C7 bulbs

Nearly the same glow as a C9 from a smaller bulb, for a cleaner, lower-profile line along the roof.

Mini lights wrapped through trees and shrubs in a front yard

Best for trees and bushes

Mini lights

Accent trees, shrubs, columns and railings. Warm white, multicolor, red or green, with other colors on request.

Nine colors. Any pattern.

Mix C9 and C7 bulbs however you like: solid, alternating or a pattern of your own.

One of Vancouver's longest-running Christmas light companies

Red Hat Lighting started in 2007, when founder Jesse began offering holiday lights through his landscaping business. He enjoyed it enough to keep going after he sold the landscaping company.

In 2010 his friend Brian came on as a partner, and in 2012 Jesse's sister Genevieve joined to run the office. She's now a governing partner in the LLC. Almost two decades in, it's still a company run by family and friends.

We're licensed in Washington as a limited liability company and insured up to $1 million per occurrence, so your home is covered while we work.

Questions

Vancouver Christmas light installation FAQ

Don't see your question? Call us at (360) 474-7640, 7am to 5pm, Monday through Saturday.

How much does Christmas light installation cost in Vancouver, WA?

We charge $6.00 per linear foot the first season, which covers custom fitting and light rental, and $4.50 per foot every season after. Mini lights for trees and bushes are $2.25 per foot. Most homes need 100 to 200 feet for the front rooflines and gutters. Maintenance, takedown and storage are included.

When should I book my installation?

We start hanging lights in early October and the schedule fills quickly, so the earlier you reach out, the more install dates you'll have to choose from. You can leave them off until whenever you like.

How do I get an estimate?

Send us a photo of your home with your ideas, along with your address. If your home is visible online, we can often discuss it by phone. Final pricing is based on the footage actually used.

Can you hang my own lights?

For new customers, no. We only install our own commercial-grade, custom-fit C9, C7 and mini lights. We sometimes make an exception for commercial-grade custom lights another company built, after we've seen them.

What kind of lights do you use?

Custom C9 strands with 12-inch spacing and retrofit LED bulbs that stay lit if other bulbs go out, plus the same style in a smaller C7 bulb. We also hang mini lights on trees, bushes, columns and railings.

What colors can I choose?

C9 and C7 bulbs come in warm white, red, green, blue, teal, orange, yellow, pink and purple, in any pattern. Mini lights come in warm white, multicolor, red or green, with other colors on request.

What happens if a bulb or strand goes out?

Call us and we'll fix it. Maintenance is included in your price, so there's no charge for repairs during the season.

When do you take the lights down?

We remove everything we installed by the end of the second week of January, then store your lights until next season.

Do I get to keep the lights?

Our lights are rentals, which is how we can store, maintain and rehang them for you each year. Due to limited inventory, we only offer purchases to previous customers.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We're licensed in Washington as a limited liability company and insured up to $1 million for any incident involving harm to your person or property.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes. Veterans and senior citizens get 10% off.
